GLL is looking for a Transport Assistant (flexible worker), based in North Hykeham, to cover for driver annual leave and sickness absence delivering courier service to library sites in Lincolnshire.  

 

You will be required to drive a vehicle to various locations to deliver stock and other items as required.  Access to sites at some locations may be outside of opening hours, and you will be responsible for securely opening and closing the building using keys and alarm codes.  Working closely with another colleague, you will circulate stock within the timeframes given and sort items daily for onward movement to the next location. The courier service generally operates between 6am and 2.30pm on weekdays. 

 

Duties include: 

 

  • Visiting libraries, community hubs and mobiles bases for delivery/collection of library materials, furniture, equipment and shop stock in Lincolnshire. 

  • Adhere to timetabled routes for daily and extra deliveries to provide an efficient, flexible and reliable service. 

  • Maintaining security of buildings when accessing outside of library opening hours. 

  • Maintaining the vehicle in a roadworthy condition, carrying out daily checks and completing a driver log and reporting any defects found. 

  • Observing GLL’s accident reporting procedures for vehicles and other accidents. 

  • Ensuring the security of the van and contents, particularly overnight. 

  • Ensure the inside of the vehicle is clean and tidy and that all equipment fixed to and travelling in the vehicle is fit for purpose. 

 

What you will need: 

  • Full Category B Driving Licence  

  • Experience of driving in rural areas and within Lincolnshire  

  • Awareness of health and safety, particularly manual handling and road safety 

  • Experience of working on own and to specific schedule 

  • Able to work unsociable hours  

  • Good attendance record and excellent timekeeping/punctuality 

  • Ability to quickly sort stock for delivery to correct location within a given timeframe 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with library staff and others in a polite manner

  • This is a flexible position with an hourly rate of £12.60. Hours of work will be negotiated with you in line with the needs of the service, flexible working may be possible, working from home is not possible in this role.
