GLL is looking for a Senior Library Assistant to join its Outreach Library team based in Eltham Library. This is a part time opportunities (18 hours). If you have the skills, ambition and experience to work as part of this team, which takes the library service to local people and communities there's never been a more exciting time to join us.

In this role, you’ll adapt to, and acknowledge, the diversity of our customers and their requirements. You will be visiting housebound customers in their own homes, residential care homes as well as schools and nurseries, you’ll be visiting people of all ages and backgrounds and need to make them feel at ease. You may be lone working when out in the community. Your passion for libraries and community engagement will be apparent as you help people continue to have access to the library service. This role is open to part time applications

 

What you’ll do:

*        Prepare reading/listening choices for customers and deliver to their homes, school or nursery using rotas as allocated, observing the Road Traffic Acts and any instructions given by the police and traffic wardens

*        Be responsible on a day to day basis for the serviceability and security of the vehicle in accordance with GLL driving policies, carrying out routine safety and maintenance checks on the vehicle before taking out on the road, report  on the van’s apparent condition and reporting any defects

*        Assist the public in person and by telephone, in a helpful and courteous manner in accordance with GLL customer care policies

*        Keep up to date with and understand the duties and responsibilities of the role in line with the Children’s Act 2004, in relation to child protection and safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults. Ensuring any cause for concern is discussed with the line manage immediately

*        Carry out all duties with due regard for Health and Safety requirements and regulations, and  GLL’s Society Customer Care Charter and Equal Opportunities Policy

What you need:

  • Library Experience
  • Clean Driving Licence
  • Excellent Customer service skills
  • Strong numeracy, literacy and communication skills
  • Knowledge of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
  • Administrative skills
  • A passion for libraries and community engagement
  • The ability to work alone
