Children’s Librarian Based: Balham Library

GLL is looking for a new Children’s Librarian, based at Balham Library working 36 hours per week.

GLL is a charitable social enterprise that operates libraries for our partner, the London Borough of Wandsworth. As Children’s Librarian, you’ll be heavily involved in everything from stock ordering and display to nursery and school visits and networking with local groups – all with the view to getting the community using their local libraries more. This is a senior position within Wandsworth libraries and as such, you’ll need the experience, knowledge and confidence to lead on a variety of tasks. A typical day could see you running a toddlers’ singing session in the morning, delivering a homework support group in the afternoon and cashing up and closing the library at the end of the day. Your experience of working in public libraries, in particular working with children and young people, will have given you a good understanding of how to create an environment in a children’s library that is educational, fun and safe. A strong people manager, you’ll motive and inspire the team to achieve targets and key performance indicators as well as working to the GLL ethos. Budget management and an excellent knowledge of ICT usage are key. You’ll ideally have a library/Information Management qualification and will definitely have a strong work ethos, creativity and enthusiasm for new challenges.

*        Devise and deliver imaginative and fun children’s activities including story & rhyme time and craft activities for under 5’s

*        Follow Safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults’ policy and procedures
